I’m very happy to show my work in the beautiful space of Pictura. Come by to check out Grondsteen on Wednesdays till Saturdays from 13:00-17:00 or join us for our finissage event on the 15th of February!

- Grondsteen / Foundation Stone
10/01/2026 – 15/02/2026
Finissage event: 15 februari
With, amongst others, a talk by Lex ter Braak
Location: Pictura Dordrecht
A foundation stone is the first stone laid in a building and forms the base on which the building rests. In Grondsteen, we approach artefacts as the foundation stones of society. These objects tell stories about extinct organisms and offer a view of the lives of our ancestors. The image we develop on the basis of artefacts, however, is never complete and will always be colored by the perspective of the present.
The artists in Grondsteen take this perspective into account in their work and explore different approaches to and meanings of foundation stones. They view raw materials and archaeological objects as carriers of untold stories. By deforming objects and searching for alternatives, they shift the perspective on the past and question what archaeologists of the future will find from our present time. In the exhibition, fact and fiction merge, and the visitor is challenged to assign alternative meanings to objects in the surrounding environment.

Supported by Iona Stichting - The exhibition Below Control has been amazing
I’ve taken these photos when the exhibition was already closed. At this stage my work had been developing for a little more than a month which means that it was filled with crystals. Check out the project page for more information and a video.

- Exhibition Below Control by MUSH-ROOM
Until the end of November I am participating in a show by MUSH-ROOM. For this exhibition I made a new installation that can only be experienced by visiting the space. My work is supported by CBK Rotterdam.
The following text is written by the team of MUSH-ROOM;
BELOW CONTROL invites a descent into a space where the pace of everyday life falls away, opening to a quieter rhythm. The exhibition explores surrender not as passivity but as an act of radical connection: to our body, emotions, and the uncertain world we share. We invite you to slow down and feel the tension between surrender and control.
BELOW CONTROL is supported by CBK Rotterdam, Stichting Bekker la-Bastide fonds and Iona stichting.

Im Participating in an exhibition by Hannah van den Elzen at Het Archief Artspace in Rotterdam. You can visit the exhibition from the 7th till the 30th of March!

- Connected exhibition photos
The opening of the exhibition Connected has been great. There where many visitors, great music and a beautiful atmosphere. These are some photos of the exhibition.
The interactive exhibition Connected at Frank Taal Galerie invites us to rethink our connections with each other and art.New forms of communication make it easier than ever to maintain contact, regardless of physical distance. Yet contemporary society seems increasingly divided, with personal contact slowly disappearing. The shift to digital interaction can limit spontaneous encounters and increase the feeling of isolation.
The artists in Connected all work with the theme of connection, each from a unique perspective. Their works offer perspectives on possible connections in contemporary society. This concept is reinforced by the exhibition layout, which makes the experience of connection tangible. For this purpose, the gallery is divided into a space of contact and isolation, each with its own rules and a contrasting atmosphere. In this way, visitors are challenged to connect with the work and each other in new ways.
The participating artists are;
Semâ Bekirović
Zoë d’Hont
Saminte Ekeland
Caren Van Herwaarden
Ildikó Horváth
Marilou van Lierop
Pieter Jan Martyn
Ruben Mols
Vincent Zanni
I am the curator and the gallery is Frank Taal Gallery.

- Connected
I am curating a new group exhibition at Frank Taal Gallery.

- Participating in IAMAIR during Museumnacht010
Just over a month ago I had the opportunity to participate in a pilot performance of IAMAIR at Depot Boijmans van Beuningen. Lisa Meijer created IAMAIR and gave artists, performers and actors the opportunity to infiltrate the museum and to translate their vision of the institute into a work. It has been incredible to collaborate, engage in discussions on effectively presenting the performances, and to lead the guided tour.
Lisa wrote the following text about the project:
IAMAIR is an art project and agency that facilitates interaction with audiences in cultural institutions through unexpected narratives co-created with artists and performers. Operating on the borders where reality meets fiction, our interventions aim to build new bridges between institutions, audiences and artists, shaping venues into public forums where artistic freedom meets self expression. During Museum Night, working on its debut performance at Depot Boijmans van Beuningen, IAMAIR will present a pilot-series of interventions by artists Elisa Strinna, Joshua Thies, June Yu, Katharina Thomas, and Mar Gimeno Lumbiarres. These performances will be brought to life by themselves, and actors Josebelle Silva, Annelou Bangert, and Jason Gwen. If you want to be part of the journey, keep your eyes and ears open, it can happen anywhere, anytime. And if you are looking for a clue, ask guides Thomas Meijerman and Ailen Meester on the ground floor, they won’t tell you anything but might point you in the right direction.

- Exhibition at Brutus
A view weeks ago I showed a new work in an exhibition that was organised by the Bcademie. The exhibition was called Something Sticky Under Your Feet.
The work that I showed is part of two bigger projects in which I am reflecting on our contemporary vision of the world and what we should share with the next generation.
Send me an email for more information.

The exhibition that I curated called Dämmerung (German for twilight) at the gallery Frank Taal is getting great responses.
Here is an impression!

- Dämmerung
The summer exhibition Dämmerung is exclusively opened during twilight; the moment of
day in which the amount of sunlight declines, and the day transforms into night. During this
exhibition, all phases of dusk will be addressed; from the so called ‘civil’ dusk – in which the
human eye is still capable of detecting all small details -, until the ‘astronomic’ dusk, -in
which the darkness finally takes away our sight- .
During twilight, our senses sharpen; as if preparing to hunt. By catching shadows, that will
slowly crawl over the artworks, the visitors will experience the artworks as never before.
Twilight is not only a natural phenomenon: it also marks a mental area: a period that rises
more questions than answers, which forces us to rely on mere interpretation.
Each work in this exhibition relates to the theme of twilight in its own way. Aldo van den
Broek, for example, shows us scenes from Eastern Europe, in which civilians live in the
inbetween of communism and the following era. His black works are composed with
masked materials, likewise the way deteriorated materials in communist architecture are
often coveredd with a thin layer of masking plaster.
The work of WDKA graduate Vincent Zanni, departs from a whole different perspective: in
his dark blue cyanotypes, he shows us slowly fading memories.
As the summer progresses, the days will shorten. At the beginning of the show, the
artworks will still somewhat be lit by sunlight. But at the end of the exhibition, visitors must
probably use some lights of their own, to reveal all hidden structures. However, the show
won’t be obscured completely, as it takes place in a city that never completely sleeps itself.
Curator Thomas Meijerman (Westervoort, 1995) graduated in 2020 from the WDKA and
has since then, been studying dynamic natural phenomenon.

- One-Time View
This work is about an experience. Buyers will have to decide whether or not want to see the work. However, if this is chosen, the work will immediately begin to degrade until there is nothing left of it. The experience of the work is only for this person and for no one else. The instructions on the envelope also provide an experience
The best experience comes from following the instructions on the envelope. The envelope will only be opened after following the instructions.

- View my work at The New Current 2023
With this post I would like to invite you to the opening of The New Current 2023! I’ll be showcasing a new, interactive video installation.

- The influence of the tides on my work
The tides are a big factor within the formation of a coastal landscape. The landscape that I choose for a conversation with the landscape had to have a big difference between low tide and high tide. It had to have strong currents, so the landscape would be able to evolve over the time of my stay. That also meant that it changed both my physical and mental state. I want to share this photo of how the tides dissolved my work.

- Reminiscing about the Brutus Wild Summer of Art
September 4th there was a closing of the Brutus Wild Summer of Art. I am very excited about all the people that I have met and the feedback that I received!

- Residency Pictura Dordrecht
The 15th till the 28th of August I have been working in Pictura Dordrecht to start a new project. The ”experimental project weeks” can be seen as a sort of residency in which 5 artists are invited to work in the same space for two weeks. These are photos of my work during the final presentation.

- Wild Summer of Art Part II
Tomorrow is the opening of the Brutus Wild Summer of Art Part II in which I will show a selection of works from the project a Conversation with the Landscape.
The exhibition is curated by Piet de Jonge (former curator of the Van Abbemuseum, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and Museum Kröller-Müller), Jessy Koeiman (curator Collective Learning, Art Institute Melly) and Liesbeth Bik (visual artist and curator).

- A walk trough the landscape with a heavy rock
A walk through the landscape with a rock in order to experiment with the limitations of my body and to change into a different being for a brief moment.

- Preview of todays intervention
This is a preview of something that I’ve been working on. After two weeks of warm weather and sun we’ve now arrived to pretty stormy and cold weather.

- A story of my latest intervention
In my work I am (often subconsciously) looking for something bigger than myself and something sublime. Last sunday I planned on doing an intervention during a storm with big waves that hit the rocks around me. When I arrived at the location I found out that the heavy rain caused the cliffs to become brittle and I witnessed a lot of small avalanches. I realized that at this moment I had the rare opportunity to create something sublime with pure elements. However the risk of doing this intervention would be very high and I had to wonder whether it would be worth it. Eventually I had to make the decision not to do it as it would risk both me and the rest of the works that I would be making here. I decided to postpone it and try again two days later.
The waves that day were higher than I planned on but it would still be safe enough to do the intervention. During the build up I found out that the rocks were a lot more slippery than before and at some point I got into a dangerous situation where the chance of getting stuck underwater was very high. Unfortunately I had to leave behind my food, tripod and my work in order to make it back to a safe height. I planned this intervention for two weeks in order to minimize the risks and to know exactly what I could expect in all the different situations. In the end working with the forces of nature is very unsure and even if you take everything into account, it can still surprise you.

- Process of working with the elements earth, fire and water
I am searching for a collaboration between myself and the elements. This video is a part of a process where I am mostly focussing on water, fire and earth.

Today I woke up at 5 in order to go back to my coastal territory and made this slightly obscure video during one of my landscape performances.

- Announcement
I am very happy to announce that I was granted the opportunity to spend the coming three months in Bilbao in order to create a new work called A Conversation with the Landscape. This project consists of a series of interventions, performances, photo works and evolving art pieces within the coastal landscape of Biscay.
The last few months I’ve been very busy in order to arrange this project which is why I couldn’t upload any new content on this blog. From now on I will keep you up to date with my findings within this landscape and the art scene of Bilbao!
